Song & Sword
A downloadable game
Song & Sword is a 1-page, rules-lite, fantasy adventure game inspired by The Legend of Zelda and its myriad successors. It’s also a hack of John Harper’s Lasers & Feelings. Players take on the role of bold adventurers, attempting to save the land by collecting artifacts of legends and battling the forces of the Adversary.
The game features:
- Quick character generation - pick a couple descriptors and choose a number and off you go.
- Collaborative Adversary generation - make a villain together with stakes that will directly impact the players.
- Deterministic success and failure - no "partial success" here! Communicating the potential outcomes ahead of the roll let's players make informed decisions about the risks they face.
Fonts are Sherwood, Fontin, and Fontin Sans.

Could you explain this part?
"Whenever you run out of Hearts, you are knocked out and will need to rest somewhere safe to recover. When you do, add or subtract 1 from your number (minimum 2, maximum 5) as you recommit yourself."
Does that mean add or subtract from your SONG/SWORD? And does it get better or worse?
Hi! Yes, you can add or subtract from your SONG/SWORD number. I refer to it as your "number" for short, since its the only one you roll against.
It's more sliding along a continuum than getting better or worse. Move up and you get better at SONGS; down and you get better at SWORDS.
